On Monday, November 26, the 18th round of negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will begin in Doha, Qatar. Just another step in decades of climate diplomacy.

The following video will allow you to review the history of climate change negotiations in only 83 seconds. One could say, quite facetiously, that past successes in addressing environmental issues by this UN body have been so unimpressive, that they can easily be summarized in seconds.

  1. Very cute! Love the kazoo, eh? Just one little detail that’s a bit unfair of the film makers. Did we developed nations not sign onto the Clean Development Mechanism under Article 12 of the Kyoto Protocol to help us help developing nations develop in ways that would cut their emissions and lead them on the road to renewable energy development? So it’s a bit unfair, that part in this excellent this film where they make fun of a developing nation asking for compensation. This is what should have been happening all along anyway. (And no, the CDM wasn’t perfect … the only perfect strategy would have been for all of us to get off fossil fuels together, cold turkey, while creating a perpetual (renewable minus burning) energy economy.)

    • Glad you enjoyed the spoof on climate talks. But you’re right – it misses out on a lot of details. How much can you cover in 83 seconds I guess? I found it entertaining if nothing else.
